San Marino is a country situated in the Apennine Mountains. San Marino is a landlocked enclave, completely surrounded by Italy. It borders to the Italian region Emilia Romagna to the north-east and Marche Montefeltro to the south-west. It is one of the smallest countries in the world, its total area is just 24 square miles.
Consorzio Vini Tipici di San Marino – Grilet NV – 15.97 – Grilet, a sparkling white wine for all occasions. This curious blend of Biancale, Chardonnay and Sangiovese (vinified as a white wine) creates a fizzy, foamy wine that offers fresh tones of stone fruit and white flowers and leaves a lean but crisp impression in the mouthNaturally fermented sparkling white wine. Biancale, Chardonnay and Sangiovese fermented without the skins. Small but persistent bubbles. Bouquet refined and fruity with a slight smell of crusty bread. Taste is dry, savoury, lively and persistent. Excellent as an aperitif, with salami, herb or asparagus omelettes, fried fish and pasta dishes with tomato sauce. Ideal with the oven-baked pizzas. Frizzante & crisp, great with all fried goodies.
Consorzio Vini Tipici di San Marino Roncale 09– 18.97 – Ribolla & Chardonnay – This 50-50 blend of Ribolla and Chardonnay makes for an exciting combination that delivers both power and intensity. The aromas are wide-ranging and thick, including honeysuckle and apricot. Its texture is thick and would pair well with shellfish or poultry.
Consorzio Vini Tipici di San Marino Sangiovese 08 – 18.57 – Pouring into the glass reveals a sharp nose that is definitely old world with rustic aromas of tree bark, charcoal, and iron pipe with some dark red cherry. The palate is a very nice combination of crushed red cherry, red raspberry, and cranberry fruit with all kinds of other enhancing non fruit flavors, like licorice, and caramel, with of course some of those earthy, mineral flavors. Surprisingly full bodied for this varietal. Good dose of oak. Has almost perfect acidity, by no means out of balance, and does not need food to show it’s true potential. Ready to drink now, but can easily handle a little more bottle time. The lingering finish is that dry dark cherry with some graphite. We recommend pairing with appetizers of cured meats, pasta with meat sauce, game and seasoned cheese especially.
Consorzio Vini Tipici di San Marino Brugneto 08 – 21.57 – Brugneto,the classic red wine made from the best grapes of the best vintage years. Fine tannins, not too sharp. Classic sangiovese cherries and meaty taste with a bit of an aromatic floral. Must be at least 85% Sangiovese, aged 1 year before bottling, then sees some bottle age before release. Here’s a Sangiovese that is light and lean in the mouth with a vibrant ruby color and pretty aromas of forest berry, tar, licorice and chopped herbs. There is also slight astringency that promises to soften up with a bit of aeration.
